After completing a Graphic Design Diploma at the beginning of 2020, the pandemic halted all plans in their tracks. The world closed down and we were all told to stay home. It was during this strange time that I developed my interest in Typography and Lettering and fell in love with Modern Calligraphy.
Over the next few months, I spent all of my time learning and practising Calligraphy and began posting my progress onto a new Instagram account @thehampshirecalligraphystudio.
Modern Calligraphy is a contemporary take on traditional forms of Calligraphy, such as Spencerian and Copperplate. The Modern Calligraphy style allows for more free and expressive pieces resulting in unique and fun designs.
As the summer started and we were still in lockdown, I combined my new found love of Calligraphy with my Graphic Design knowledge to create ‘Positive Affirmation’ Postcards, Greeting Cards and Bespoke pieces, selling to family and friends and on Etsy.
At The Hampshire Calligraphy Studio, each card & postcard design is still hand drawn using a traditional Oblique Calligraphy Pen with Japanese Sumi Ink. The designs are then digitised and printed using the studio’s Inkjet printer onto high quality card.
As the world begins to return to some sort of normality, it is important that we focus on a healthy future. Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at The Hampshire Calligraphy Studio, which is why our card stock is FSC Approved, the Kraft Envelopes that we send with every card are made from 100% recycled material, and the plastic we wrap our cards & postcards in during transport is biodegradable.
